
Modernization of Liberian Ports with Tanger Med
A Strategic Partnership to Transform Port Infrastructure
Liberia has just signed a significant agreement withTanger Med Engineering, the technical subsidiary of the Moroccan port group. This agreement marks a decisive step toward modernizing the ports of Monrovia and Buchanan.
Signed in Tangier, this partnership is based on anambitious Master Plan. The plan aims to rehabilitate Liberia’s port infrastructure over the long term. It is led by theNational Port Authority (NPA), headed by Mr. Sekou H. Dukuly, and is part of President Joseph Boakai’sARRESTprogram. This initiative seeks to accelerate reform, economic recovery, and regional integration.
A Large-Scale Modernization Plan
The Master Plan includes several priority areas. It outlines:
- the modernization of docks and container terminals,
- the installation of smart logistics platforms,
- the implementation of green energy solutions,
- the enhancement of security infrastructure.
Additionally, dredging and expansion works are planned. These improvements will enable the accommodation of larger vessels and increase trade volumes. Thus, Liberia will strengthen its position on the West African maritime corridor.
