During the press conference, Matteo Catani, CEO of GNV, stated: “Morocco is GNV’s primary international market. Last year was satisfying for us, as we transported nearly 2.5 million passengers globally (2.3 million in 2022). Even in 2024, despite a market and geopolitical context marked by several complications, we continue to grow (+11% in terms of passengers and goods transported), and exchanges with Morocco are increasing even faster, doubling in speed (+26%).”
For this reason, new measures have been implemented to facilitate and enhance the journey to and from Morocco. One of the most significant announcements made was the imminent opening of a second office in Morocco, specifically in Nador.
After Tangier, GNV Announces the Opening…
GNV also revealed its intention to engage in the Kingdom’s major projects by announcing the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Academy of Merchant Marine and the ISEM aimed at encouraging, supporting, and promoting new generations of maritime professionals through joint and synergistic activities among the three signatories and between Italy and Morocco.
Territorial cooperation is also a focus for GNV. On this occasion, a delegation from the municipality of Genoa participated in the event to announce the collaboration pact signed that morning with the city of Tangier.
Mohammed Kabbaj, the company’s partner in Morocco, commented on all these initiatives, stating: “We are aligning our development with a collaborative approach that commits us daily to follow the directives of the merchant marine – our supervisory administration – and the Mohammed V Foundation, which coordinates the Marhaba operation and is always present in the ports and on our ships. We are also ready to launch a long-term development program aimed at further enhancing our offerings and onboard hospitality.”
Regarding the new services, Carole Montarsolo, GNV’s Commercial Manager for the Moroccan destination, added: “We pay great attention to hospitality and service quality on our ships, generally in line with the Marhaba operation. This is why we have invested in revising all the menus for bars, self-service areas, and onboard restaurants with products tailored to our clientele (halal) and strengthened services dedicated to families (family lounge), introducing musical performances onboard and renovating prayer rooms. As for the staff, the increase in the number of local professionals onboard our ships is constant year after year, allowing us to improve our relationship with customers and our understanding of their needs.”
In 2023, GNV transported over 450,000 passengers on its Moroccan routes alone, and this year, the company aims to further improve this result.
This press conference was followed by an institutional event held at the iconic center dedicated to Ibn Battuta, a Moroccan historian and jurist considered one of the pioneers of great intercontinental expeditions, in the presence of the Italian ambassador in Rabat, several representatives from Moroccan and international institutions, and commercial partners;
We will announce more details regarding the two signed agreements.
