
Tuna Fishing in Algeria: Two New Sea Giants Strengthen the National Fleet
The port of Algiers resonated last Tuesday, marking a historic turning point for the Algerian fishing industry. The launch oftwo new vessels dedicated to bluefin tunarepresents a significant advancement. This event, attended by the Ministers of Transport, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, greatly enhances ourbluefin tuna fishing capabilities in Algeria. Moreover, it kicks off an ambitious 2025 campaign.
“Zamalet Emir Abdelkader” and “Chahid Abane Ramdane”: Ready for the Open Sea
Our two new boats, named “Zamalet Emir Abdelkader” and “Chahid Abane Ramdane,” are specially equipped for deep-sea fishing. Each measuring 42 meters in length, they come fully equipped with:
- Amodern cold storage roomto maintain the quality of the fish.
- Apowerful enginethat ensures speed and efficiency.
- Acomfortable lounge for the crewand even a kitchen with a restaurant, ensuring top-notch accommodations for the team.
The Minister of Agriculture confirmed that these vessels, operational from their inauguration, will significantly bolster ourbluefin tuna fishing fleet in Algeria. He emphasized that 75% of their construction is “Made in Algeria,” showcasing our local expertise. Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport praised this initiative, already announcing plans for an even larger tuna vessel, measuring 52 meters.
The 2025 Bluefin Tuna Fishing Campaign Begins: Target of 2047 Tons!
A Modern Cold Storage Room to Preserve Fish Quality
With the inauguration of the boats, the ministers also launched thebluefin tuna fishing campaignfor 2025. This campaign will run from May 26 to July 1. Algeria will participate with 39 vessels. Our goal is to capture 2047 tons of bluefin tuna. This aligns with international agreements governing this crucial activity. All of this underscores Algeria’s commitment to developing its fishing industry while protecting our marine resources in accordance with global standards.
