TheZarzis Port, situated in the Medenine governorate, is actively preparing. It will welcome the first crossing for thereturn of Tunisians from abroadthis Monday. This event marks the beginning of the summer season. The port will manage a total of 8 trips: 5 arrivals and 3 departures. It expects to accommodate 12,000 passengers and 4,000 vehicles.


Major Improvements at Zarzis Port for the Summer

The preparations aim to enhance services and expedite procedures. To this end, the port has allocated three areas for the maritime station dedicated to vehicles. A specific room is also ready for pedestrian passengers. Additionally, the infrastructure has been modernized. Renovations included the replacement of the roof of maritime station number 1. Lighting has been improved both inside and outside the port. The electrical transformer and lighting network for the southern area are now operational.

Furthermore, an outdoor shelter for departing passengers’ vehicles has been established. The port has also acquired 300 meters of concrete barriers and iron barriers. Maintenance and painting work is ongoing throughout the port area. Cleaning efforts have been intensified, focusing on the exterior of the port and green spaces.


A Smooth Return for Tunisians: Coordination and Security

The port administration is continuously coordinating with all partners. The goal is to ensure the best services and a smooth passage. A rigorous organization guarantees perfect harmony. For instance, an equipped ambulance and a fire truck from the Civil Protection will be present during all crossings. An “A” category ambulance will also be available inside the maritime station. Moreover, fixed public security and traffic police points are set up outside the port. A special pathway has been created for passengers’ vehicles to prevent traffic jams and facilitate passage. The maritime facade is secured. All other services, such as currency exchange and SIM card purchases, will also be available.

The Wali of Medenine, Walid Taboubi, recently visited the commercial port of Zarzis. He oversaw the final preparations for the first crossing of thereturn of Tunisians from abroad. His visit included inspections of the spaces, the maritime station’s equipment, and the passenger processing routes. He also confirmed the full readiness of the port and all its stakeholders for the crossing on June 16. His visit concluded with a working meeting aimed at optimally preparing for the intense activity the port will experience throughout the summer.
