Resumption of Maritime Connections Between Algeciras and Tangier After Bernard
After a challenging Sunday marked by disruptions due to Storm Bernard, maritime traffic resumed its normal pace in the Strait of Gibraltar on Monday between Algeciras and Tangier.
Adverse weather conditions had forced the companies Armas Trasmediterránea, Balearia, and FRS to suspend their services, particularly those connecting Algeciras to Tangier and Ceuta. However, following a decrease in wind strength, which had exceeded 80 km/h, the crossings were reinstated, much to the relief of many passengers, especially Moroccans living abroad.

Port sources confirmed to the EFE agency that conditions have significantly improved, allowing high-speed ferries to resume operations. The connections between Algeciras and Tangier Med, crucial for the transit of goods and travelers between Spain and Morocco, have also been restored.
The Strait of Gibraltar was one of the areas most affected by Storm Bernard. With winds reaching up to 100 km/h and generating significant waves, activities in the region were considerably disrupted. The company FRS had to cancel its crossings as early as 2:00 PM on Sunday, with its vessel “HSC Levante Jet” remaining docked for the originally scheduled trip at 3:30 PM.
