A New Maritime Route Connects Spain and the Netherlands for Industrial Freight
DFDS has launched a weekly freight service betweenSpainand the Netherlands. This service aims to meet the needs of industries, freight forwarders, and owners of special cargoes. As part of this initiative,DFDSis collaborating with Hydro, a global leader in aluminum. This partnership facilitates the weekly shipment of aluminum.
Starting at the end of May, this route will connect the ports of Vilagarcía and Rotterdam. It will provide a direct and efficient link between southern and central Europe. This service offers a competitive and sustainable alternative to road transport.
Mathieu Girardin, the director of DFDS’s Ferry division, states:
“This New Route Represents a Significant Opportunity for the Market …
“This new route represents a significant opportunity for the European market. It aligns with our strategy for organic growth. We are excited to collaborate with Hydro to strengthen their supply chain. This connection enhances links between Northern Europe and the Iberian Peninsula. It also demonstrates our ability to be a strategic partner for large companies.”
Hydro: Optimized and More Sustainable Logistics
Hydro emphasizes the importance of this partnership:
“At Hydro, We Aim to Optimize Our Logistics Operations
“At Hydro, we aim to optimize our logistics operations. This is a key activity for our company, which operates 24/7. This partnership strengthens our RoRo solution, a safer and more efficient method. It helps reduce costs and emissions while ensuring timely deliveries to our customers,” explains Gerd Aalborg Aas, Vice President of Logistics at Hydro Aluminium Metal.
The RoRo (roll on – roll off) system allows for the direct loading of aluminum products onto cargo ships. It eliminates the need for cranes and reduces risks associated with suspended loads. This approach also cuts loading time in half. As a result, ships can reduce their speed while still meeting deadlines, which limits fuel consumption and harmful emissions.
For this new route, DFDS will utilize the vesselBelgia Seaways, which has a capacity of 2,660 lane meters.
