
Algeria Ferries: Fleet Reinforcement Planned for Summer 2025
In anticipation of the high summer demand,Algérie Ferriesplans to charter one or two additional ships for the 2025 season.
The announcement was made byMohamed Tayeb Aboud, CEO of theAlgerian Maritime Transport Group (GATMA), which oversees the company. After a season marked by operational challenges, the goal is to provide a more reliable and efficient service.
A Better Prepared Chartering
During a broadcast onNational Radio, the CEO of GATMA acknowledged the inconveniences experienced by passengers in 2024 due to technical issues with a chartered ship. “We apologize to our customers for the delays in crossings caused by these incidents. The ship we had rented faced problems, particularly with the air conditioning system, after only a few months of operation,” he explained.

In light of this situation, the company decided to discontinue the use of this vessel to ensure acceptable travel conditions for its passengers.
Ships Suitable for Long Crossings
For the upcoming summer season, Algérie Ferries plans to charter aquality ship, pending the return to service of theTariq Ibn Ziyad, which is currently undergoing complete renovation abroad.
The CEO of GATMA also specified that the chartering could involveone or two ships, depending on the opportunities available in the market. He emphasized the difficulty of finding vessels suitable for routes lasting16 to 20 hours, as most available ships are designed for shorter crossings of5 to 6 hours.
