
Algeria: The Arrival of Private Companies Will Enhance Maritime Transport
The arrival of new private companies in the maritime transport sector inAlgeriais expected to boost competition and enhance service quality starting this summer.
This was stated on Thursday by the Minister of Transport, Said Sayoud, during a plenary session at the National People’s Assembly (APN) dedicated to oral questions, according to APS.
When asked about the evolution of passenger maritime transport services, the minister emphasized that opening the market to private operators in the sectorAlgeria maritime transport companieswill stimulate competitiveness among companies serving Algerian ports. This dynamic should lead to a significant improvement in services offered to travelers starting this summer.
The Opening of the Sector to Private Investment Has Already Led to…
The opening of the sector to private investment has already resulted in the creation, in 2024, of the first private Algerian maritime company,Nouris El Bahr Ferries, which operates routes between Algeria and the ports of Marseille and Alicante. Other operators are expected to join the market soon, such asAures, which plans to begin its activities this year, according to the specialized siteVoyageFranceAlgérie.
In addition to these new private companies, several national and foreign carriers continue to provide connections to Algerian ports, including Algiers, Béjaïa, Skikda, Annaba, Oran, and Ghazaouet. Among them,Algérie Ferries, the national maritime company, servesMarseille, Sète,Alicante, and Genoa.
On the side of foreign companies,Corsica Linea, based in France, operates crossings from Marseille and Sète to Algiers, Béjaïa, and Skikda. Spain is also well represented withBaleariaandTrasmediterranea, which offer routes from Alicante, Valencia, Barcelona, and Almeria.
With this diversification of maritime offerings, travelers should benefit from improved services and a wider selection for their crossings starting this summer.
