DP World: New Green Maritime Line Morocco-Europe for Exports

An Eco-Friendly Link to Boost Agricultural Exports from Agadir

DP World inaugurated this Tuesday, from Agadir, its first dedicated service for fresh products. Named ‘Atlas’, this weekly line establishes a direct connection between Morocco, the United Kingdom and Europe. This new logistics corridor offers a faster and more sustainable solution for Moroccan agricultural exports to North European markets.

An Optimized and Sustainable Itinerary

The first stop of the ship is scheduled at London Gateway on November 30, followed by a call at the port of Antwerp the next day. Thanks to this initiative, the transportation of Moroccan fruits and vegetables benefits from greater reliability and traceability.

Environmental performance is also a priority. In fact, CO2 emissions could be reduced by up to 70% compared to traditional road transport methods.

State-of-the-Art Logistics and Carbon Footprint Reduction

Each week, DP World transports tomatoes, peppers, blueberries, and citrus fruits from Morocco’s main agricultural regions to European logistics platforms. This service relies on Unifeeder ships, a subsidiary of DP World.

This new maritime service has the capacity to transfer up to 150,000 tonnes of cargo per year from road to sea. Experts estimate that this could reduce emissions by 250 kg of CO2 per tonne-kilometer transported.

To support this initiative, DP World has invested in over 1,700 additional containers, refrigerated or dry. A digital device ensures real-time tracking, offering complete visibility on flows from shipment to delivery.

Strengthening Morocco’s Competitiveness

Each year, Morocco exports over 1.1 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables to Western Europe, with annual growth exceeding 10%. This new maritime corridor aims to reinforce this dynamic while supporting the competitiveness of local producers.

The return journey includes stops in Casablanca and Antwerp before returning to Agadir. Ultimately, this line perfectly fits into DP World’s strategy, which seeks to position Morocco as a key player in fresh produce supply chains.
