Morocco Reelected to the IMO Council: A Maritime Victory

01.12.2023​On Friday, December 1, 2023, Morocco was reelected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a reelection that reaffirms the Kingdom’s prominent position within the international maritime community in general and within this UN agency in particular, which is currently holding the 33rd session of its General Assembly in London.

Morocco’s reelection to this important body is the culmination of sustained efforts and the dynamic role the Kingdom plays in the IMO’s various bodies and committees. This achievement is the result of a promotional campaign jointly conducted by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, along with the relevant ministerial departments and public institutions and enterprises under their supervision.

This reelection of Morocco to the IMO Council reflects the trust the Kingdom enjoys within the international maritime community and serves as international recognition of the progress made by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, particularly in the maritime and port sectors.

Since joining the IMO in 1962, Morocco has continuously worked to support the organization’s efforts to enhance maritime safety and security, combat pollution, improve maritime freight operations, and streamline procedures within the IMO.
