The Port of Sfax is a multipurpose port. Its main traffic includes solid bulk materials (phosphate and derivatives, sulfur, sea salt, cereals, etc.) as well as containers.
Geographical Location:
Position: 34° 43′ N; 10° 46′ E

Nautical Data:
Approach:
- Via a channel 6.15 km long oriented Southeast/Northwest, dredged to -11 m Hydro, with a width of 60 m for the first 3 kilometers on the port side, gradually widening to 150 m on the open side.
The channel is marked by 6 pairs of buoys and a leading light.
Wave Conditions:
Waves come from the Northeast and Southeast sectors.
Tides:
Tides are regular, with an amplitude of 0.4 to 1 meter.
Currents:
- North/South sector: Weak.
- Tidal currents: Less than 1.5 knots.
Dominant Winds:
- From the Northeast and South, with a cross current changing direction depending on whether it is ebbing or flowing.
The wind strength varies from 3 to 5 (sometimes 7) on the Beaufort scale.
Infrastructure:
Basins:
- A main basin covering an area of 42 hectares.
- A basin (NPK) covering an area of 15.5 hectares.
- One basin (for sailing boats) covering an area of 4.5 hectares (service).
- Turning circle: 300 m in diameter.

- M’dhila Quay (berth No. 3) with a total length of 243 m and a depth of -10.5 m Hydro.
- Phosphate Quay (berths No. 4, 5, and 6) with a length of 584 m and a depth of -10.50 m.
- Commercial Quay (berths No. 7, 8, and 9) with a length of 520 m and a depth of -10.50 m.
- Service Quay (berth No. 10) with a length of 60 m and a depth of -10.50 m.
- RORO Quay (berth No. 11) with a length of 150 m and a depth of -10.50 m.
- Commercial Quay (berths No. 12, 13, and 14) with a length of 517 m and a depth of -10.50 m.
- Saline Quay (berth No. 15) with a length of 110 m and a depth of -10.50 m.
- Oil jetty with a length of 150 m and a depth of -10.50 m.
Protective Structures:
- North bank with road and rail access.
- South bank with road access only.
