The Port of Algiers Implements New Measure to Facilitate Sea Travel
Travelers by sea will soon be able to complete their customs procedures directly on the digital platform. This measure, introduced by the customs services at the Port of Algiers, aims to streamline the issuance of customs passage documents. This initiative is part of a series of reforms designed to modernize customs procedures, particularly during the summer season when the number of passengers significantly increases.
Abdelkader Chibane, head of the customs inspection for special systems at the General Directorate of Customs, reminded attendees at a press conference that as part of this reform, a new digital platform named ALCES (Algerian Customs Electronic System) has been launched. This platform aims to simplify customs formalities for maritime travelers, especially regarding the management of transit documents and customs passage documents for vehicles.
With this platform, travelers will be able to prepare and submit their documents online prior to their arrival at the port. This digitization will expedite the processing of files and reduce waiting times at the port, thereby providing a smoother experience for passengers.

Additionally, the official revealed that during the summer of 2024, the Port of Algiers recorded an impressive volume of passengers. In total, 232,868 people transited through the port, with 92,754 departures and 114,140 arrivals. The number of vehicles also increased, with 85,235 vehicles processed during this period. Port authorities managed a total of 196 vessels, including both arrivals and departures.
The management of transit vehicles has also been facilitated. A total of 42,606 transit documents were issued for vehicles, a significant portion of which was generated directly onboard the vessels. These improvements, combined with the digitization of processes, allow for more efficient handling of vehicles entering and exiting the port.
