
Tunisian Maritime Fleet: Acquisition of 6 Tugs
On November 6, 2023, in the honor hall of the Halq al-Wadi maritime port, the Diwan of Commercial Marine and Ports signed a contract with MED MARINE for the acquisition of six state-of-the-art maritime tugboats intended for port services, firefighting, marine pollution prevention, and search and rescue operations at sea.
During the signing ceremony, the president of the Diwan emphasized the Ministry of Transport’s commitment to sustainable development, maximum energy efficiency, reduction of environmental pollution, and digital transition. He acknowledged the financial and technical contributions of the French Development Agency to this project and other ministerial initiatives related to energy transition and the use of renewable energy sources.
Future Perspectives:
The Director General of the Diwan, Mr. Fouad Othman, highlighted the significance of this investment and the expectations surrounding the new tugboats, which will greatly enhance port services in terms of speed, efficiency, and safety. He also underscored their crucial role in the national response to pollution incidents and their contribution to rescue operations in maritime emergencies.
The entire project has been praised for its seriousness and commitment to modernizing the Tunisian maritime fleet. Future steps will be closely monitored, with the collaboration of the international control office responsible for technical supervision and approval of all construction phases of the six tugboats. Gradual delivery is scheduled over a period of 18 months from the date of the contract signing. The signing ceremony brought together representatives from the Ministry of Transport, members of the Diwan’s board of directors, executives and representatives from the French Development Agency, as well as representatives from the winning company, Med Marine.
