Mr. Mohammed ABDELJALIL, Minister of Transport and Logistics, chaired the evaluation meeting on the organization and management of the maritime transport aspect during the « Marhaba » operation on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in Rabat.
The recent meeting, which brought together the Ministry, Moroccan and foreign maritime transport companies, as well as port authorities, provided an opportunity for the Minister to emphasize the significance of « Marhaba 2023. » This operation, organized under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, holds great importance for Moroccans around the world, as it annually offers them a chance to strengthen their ties with their homeland.
Mr. ABDELJALIL expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved for their contributions to the success of « Marhaba 2023. » He highlighted the high level of coordination among all participants, both nationally and internationally.
The Minister outlined the measures implemented by the Ministry to ensure the success of this operation, including enhancing maritime transport services, optimizing transit conditions in ports, diversifying transit points, adhering to national and international maritime standards, particularly regarding maritime safety, monitoring ticket prices, and the necessity of booking confirmed tickets across all maritime routes involved in the transit operation, thereby ensuring smooth transit between the two shores during peak periods.
Regarding the maritime transport services during « Marhaba 2023, » Mr. ABDELJALIL reported that the Ministry mobilized 32 vessels operated by 9 shipping companies serving various routes connecting Moroccan ports to ports in Spain, France, and Italy. This fleet facilitates over 1,000 weekly trips, accommodating more than 500,000 passengers and 136,000 vehicles each week.
The Minister also discussed the results of « Marhaba 2023. » During the period from June 5 to September 15, approximately 3 million passengers transited through Moroccan ports, marking a 23% increase compared to « Marhaba 2022. »
