Algeria Ferries: Return of the Tariq Ibn Ziyad Scheduled for July

The shipTariq Ibn Ziyadfrom the companyAlgérie Ferrieswill be back in operation in July. This announcement was made yesterday by the Minister of Transport, Saïd Sayoud, during a meeting with the Transport and Telecommunications Commission of the National People’s Assembly (APN).

Built in Spain in 1995, this ferry is the oldest in the national fleet. Since its acquisition, it has transported thousands of passengers betweenAlgeriaand several foreign ports.

Currently, it is undergoing a complete renovation abroad. In January, Mohamed Tayeb Aboud, CEO of theAlgerian Maritime Transport Group (GATMA), clarified that this is not merely a technical maintenance issue. The goal is to revitalize the vessel and enhance its appearance.

With a capacity of1,276 passengers and 500 vehicles,Tariq Ibn Ziyadwill soon join the national fleet, which also includesEl Djazaïr 2,Tassili 2, andBadji Mokhtar 3. To better meet summer demand,Algérie Ferriesplans to charter one or two additional ships.
