Giorgia Meloni at the Port of Gioia Tauro: New MSC Lines

Giorgia Meloni is expected to visit the port of Gioia Tauro on Friday, February 16, and just hours before her arrival, MSC announces significant updates regarding new regular routes that will serve the Medcenter container terminal at the Calabrian port.

Port in the Maghreb

The weekly report from DynaLiners reveals this information, first indicating that the Swiss shipping company, founded and led by Gianluigi Aponte, has reorganized the route connecting the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent to Europe (renamed Himalaya Express). According to Alphaliner, the route will now bypass Africa, avoiding the Red Sea, and will head north to enter the western Mediterranean instead of continuing to Northern Europe (a market that will still be served by the Ipak connection). Due to this operational change, the port of Gioia Tauro has been integrated into a rotation (utilizing 12 vessels with a capacity of 8,000 to 15,000 TEUs) with stops at Sines, Valencia, Barcelona, Gioia Tauro, Khalifa, Dubai, Dammam, Jubail, Khalifa, Dubai, Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Colombo, and back to Sines.

Additionally, the Calabrian port has also been added to the Aegean service operated with four container ships of 4,500 TEUs serving routes between the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, making stops at the ports of London (Gateway), Rotterdam, Antwerp, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Izmir, Piraeus, Gioia Tauro, Sines, and back to London.

The weekly report from DynaLiners indicates…

Speaking of changes in container line schedules, the regional company Diamond Line of Cosco has added the port of Rijeka to the newly renamed Adriatic Greece Turkey (Agt) service, which is served by three container ships of 1,700 TEUs making stops at Piraeus, Rijeka, Koper, Venice, Ancona, and back to Piraeus.
