Morocco and Spain Discuss Strengthening Cooperation in Transportation

Mr. Mohammed ABDELJALIL, Minister of Transport and Logistics, held a working meeting on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the Ministry’s headquarters with Mr. Oscar Puente SANTIAGO, the Spanish Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, who was accompanied by His Excellency Mr. Enrique OJEDA, the Spanish Ambassador to Morocco, along with a high-level Spanish delegation.

This meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to commend the strong cooperative ties that connect the two countries across various sectors, particularly in transport and logistics.

During this meeting, the two Ministers discussed the measures taken by both countries in preparation for the « Marhaba 2024 » operation, emphasizing the need to coordinate efforts to ensure the success of this operation, which is of great significance for Moroccans residing abroad (MRE).

In the realm of maritime transport, both parties praised the initiatives undertaken to launch a maritime line between the cities of Tarfaya in Morocco and Puerto del Rosario in the Canary Islands, noting the significant role this line will play in promoting tourism and enhancing trade exchanges between the two countries.

Concerning road transport for passengers and goods, both officials expressed satisfaction with the fruitful and ongoing dialogue of the Moroccan-Spanish Joint Committee on International Road Transport, and examined possibilities for strengthening cooperation in this sector to meet the demands of professionals, who play a vital role in both countries regarding the transport of passengers and goods.

At the conclusion of this meeting, both parties agreed to expedite the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics, signed in February 2023 in Rabat during the 12th session of the Morocco-Spain High-Level Meeting. They also agreed to establish a joint team to develop an action plan on the topics of mutual interest mentioned in the aforementioned MOU.
