Title: Entry and Exit of Ships: Maritime Traffic Disrupted at the Port of Algiers

Following air traffic, the Port Authority of Algiers has issued a new statement announcing disruptions as well as a reorganization of ship entry and exit operations, effective until November 1, 2024.

In a statement released on Thursday, October 24, 2024, the Port Authority of Algiers announced adjustments to the schedule for ship arrivals and departures, particularly for the period from October 24 to November 1, 2024.

The Port Authority of Algiers reminds that, in conjunction with the commemorative festivities for the 70th anniversary of the glorious revolution of November 1, 1954, exercises will be conducted in the harbor of the Port of Algiers.

Anchoring Prohibition in the Port of Algiers…

Consequently, the Port Authority explains that a program has been established to reorganize ship entry and exit operations during this period. In this context, organizational measures will be implemented, including:

  • Prohibition of anchoring in the Port of Algiers for all ships;
  • Suspension of docking and undocking maneuvers from 5 AM to 4 PM.

Additionally, the Port of Algiers informs that a window from 4 PM to 5 AM will be allocated for ships to dock and depart from the quays. The Port Authority will communicate any modifications to this schedule to the entire port community.

For reference, three shipping companies currently serve the Port of Algiers from the opposite shore of the Mediterranean. These include Algérie Ferries, which offers routes to France, Spain, and Italy.

Algérie Ferries is in direct competition with the French carrier Corsica Linea, which operates services to the Port of Algiers from Marseille. Additionally, in Spain, Balearia shares the national service withAlgérie Ferries. The Spanish shipping company now offers routes from Valencia and Barcelona to the Port of Algiers.

Starting November 1, the new Algerian shipping company Nouris Elbahr Ferries will join this route, providing services from Marseille and Alicante to the Port of Algiers.
