
2022 Review: Maghreb Ports, Increase in Passengers and Cargo

The influx of travelers passing through maritime ports returned to its normal pace during the first nine months of 2022, with the number exceeding 662,000 passengers by the end of September 2022, marking a 35% increase compared to the same period the previous year. The percentage of vehicles also rose by 30%, totaling 250,000 vehicles.
During the first nine months of the current year, Tunisian Commercial Ports recorded the transit of 21.3 million tons of goods, reflecting a slight increase of 1% compared to the same period last year. Total exports through the ports increased by 6% to reach 8.1 million tons, while imports decreased by 2%, amounting to 13.2 million tons.
The number of trailers increased by 8% to 120,000 units, carrying 1.84 million tons, which represents a 21% rise, while the number of containers decreased by 2%, reaching nearly 345,000 twenty-foot containers.
Regarding commercial vessel movements, commercial ports experienced a slight increase during the first nine months of the current year, receiving 3,365 vessels compared to 3,359 vessels during the same period last year.
