
MSC Orders Two New Ferries for GNV in China
MSC continues its investments in renewing GNV’s fleet with the order of two new ro-pax ferries, along with an option for two additional units. These vessels, scheduled for delivery starting in 2027, will be constructed by the Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI).
Valued at over 150 million euros each, these new units will belong to the same series as the recentGNV VirgoandGNV Aurora. They will feature more than420 cabins, adual fuel LNG propulsionsystem, and will accommodate1,785 passengersas well as2,780 linear meters of rolling freight. Their dimensions will reach218 meters in lengthandnearly 30 meters in width, with a maximum speed of25 knots.
This Order is Part of the Fleet Modernization Program…
This order is part of GNV’s fleet modernization program, led byMatteo Catani, aimed at enhancing the environmental and operational performance of crossings. MSC will finance the acquisition and charter the vessels to GNV underbareboat charter agreements.
By the end of the year, GSI will also complete the construction of theGNV Orion(expected in May),GNV Virgo, andGNV Aurora, which will arriveeleven months ahead of the original schedule. GNV is also working to obtain the necessary permits to ensure LNG bunkering in the ports where its new ferries will be deployed.
With this new order,MSCandGNVare accelerating their transition to a more modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly fleet.
