Tassili II Sent to Greece. More Repairs Needed?
The national shipping company Algeria Ferries will once again have to part ways with one of its vessels, which is soon set to head to a shipyard in Greece. The ferry Tassili II will indeed follow the same path taken a few months ago by other ships from the Algerian company, namely the Badji Mokhtar III and the Tariq Ibn Ziyad.
In fact, the Tassili II is already in Algiers, having set sail on Friday afternoon. According to internal sources at the National Company for Maritime Passenger Transport (ENTMV), the Tassili II will soon make its way to Greece for refurbishment. Paradoxically, this comes just before the summer season, which requires the mobilization of all vessels to handle the record influx of Algerians from France wishing to spend their holidays in Algeria.
Fortunately, Algeria Ferries had time to retrieve its ships that were undergoing maintenance in Greece and Italy. This includes the massive Badji Mokhtar III and El Djazaïr II, the latter having undergone repairs in Italy while the former was serviced at the shipyards in Elefsina, Greece. Moreover, to cope with the absence of these vessels, the Algerian shipping company had to charter two ships, namely the Moby Dada and the Ariadne.
Will the Tassili II Take Long in the Greek Shipyards?
Today, it is the turn of the Tassili II to head to a Greek shipyard for refurbishment, with hopes that the ferry’s absence will not be too prolonged, especially since the Ariadne was returned at the end of Ramadan and Algeria Ferries will only be able to rely on the Moby Dada alongside its own vessels.
The Tassili II is expected to arrive in Greece on Monday, May 13, for some repair and interior cleaning operations. The Algeria Ferries ferry will even receive a fresh coat of paint to enhance its appearance in anticipation of the summer season. In summary, this is a general check-up before it faces the numerous crossings of the summer.
