Welcome 2025: Records of Maritime Traffic of Expatriates to Maghreb

The summer of 2025 confirms an exceptional influx of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) to their country of origin. Contrary to some rumors, maritime traffic is intensifying. New records are expected for theOperation Marhaba 2025, launched under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.


A maritime traffic in strong increase, despite adjustments of rotations

Recent statistics show a real progression of traffic on most of the maritime lines between Europe and Morocco, from June 15 to July 30. Traffic on the Algeciras–Tanger Med line, for example, increased by 8% compared to 2024. Long-distance lines, such as those ofGNVfrom France and Italy, record an impressive average growth of 15%. The Marseille–Tanger Med link of La Méridionale also sees its traffic increase by over 10%.

A notable fact emerges: even when companies have reduced the number of their rotations, passenger and vehicle traffic has continued to progress. This illustrates the extent of the return of MRE this summer. The Algeciras-Tanger Med line, despite a 17% reduction in rotations, saw its passenger traffic increase by 8%.


Record numbers for the return of MRE

Since the launch of theOperation Marhaba 2025on June 10, more than1.1 million passengershave entered the country by sea. This represents an increase of approximately 10% in passenger traffic compared to the same period in 2024.

Only for the day of July 30, more than24,000 passengers and 6,000 vehiclesjoined the national territory via Moroccan ports. Furthermore, lines such as Sète–Nador (GNV) display an exceptional filling rate until mid-August, confirming the massive return of MRE.
