GNV strengthens maritime links between Spain, Italy and Morocco with new vessels
• The new units, larger and more efficient, are scheduled from next summer on direct routes between the port of Barcelona and the ports of Genoa and Tangier.
• GNV is working with Spanish and Moroccan authorities to make the service operational as quickly as possible.
GNV, a subsidiary of the MSC Group and one of the leading ferry operators in the western Mediterranean, announces its commitment to deploy the new vessels of its fleet on routes between Spain and Morocco, thereby strengthening connectivity between the two countries.

“Cooperation with all institutions — port authorities, Spanish and Moroccan ports, diplomatic representations and ministries — is essential to improve infrastructure, port services and transport systems, generating tangible benefits for territories and communities. Fleet renewal and the creation of a low-environmental-impact maritime corridor represent major steps toward more efficient and sustainable transport.”

The new units, designed to ensure high operational and environmental efficiency, offer significant advantages to customers — mainly Moroccans living abroad — as well as to local communities, which will benefit from low-impact maritime corridors. However, to fully leverage these benefits, certain challenges must still be addressed in Moroccan ports, where infrastructural limitations remain. In this regard, local authorities have already initiated cooperation with GNV’s technical teams to ensure rapid solutions, particularly to enable regular operations with the port of Tangier Med from next summer.
“This renewal process also concerns Spain, a pioneer country in the energy transition, with which GNV shares a clear, forward-looking strategic vision,” Catani adds.
The new direct Tangier-Barcelona and Barcelona-Genoa routes will allow passengers to embark in Tangier and disembark in Genoa, and vice versa, creating an efficient and integrated network between North Africa and the western Mediterranean.
GNV CEO Matteo Catani, speaking at FITUR, stated: “We are working with the relevant authorities to bring the new vessels into service on routes to Morocco starting this summer. This is a strategic step that strengthens connectivity between Spain and Morocco through modern, larger and more sustainable units.”
