Will They Keep Their Promises for the Summer?
Algérie Ferries, the maritime passenger transport company, promises its clients an exceptional summer season in 2024. To achieve this, the company has established an ambitious crossing program, filled with new offerings at promotional rates.
While Algérie Ferries struggles to manage its spring schedule due to a reduced fleet and operational issues, the maritime company announces an exceptional summer season. The carrier aims to meet the growing demand from its passengers during this peak period.
In this regard, the General Director of the Algerian maritime transport group GATMA, Nadia Rabia, stated in a declaration made on Friday to public television that Algérie Ferries plans a total of 325 crossings this summer, connectingAlgeriato three destinations in Europe: France, Italy, and Spain. This enhanced program will allow for the transportation of 516,000 passengers and 140,000 vehicles, catering to the needs of the Algerian diaspora and tourists eager to explore Algeria.
France, the flagship destination for Algérie Ferries, will receive special attention with 182 scheduled trips to Marseille and Sète. These crossings are expected to transport 270,000 passengers and 80,000 vehicles, according to the company’s forecasts.
Reinforced Fleet and Promotional Rates at Algérie Ferries
To ensure reliable service and accommodate the summer influx,Algérie Ferrieswill need to mobilize its entire fleet of four vessels: El Djazair II, Tassili II, Tariq Ibn Ziyad, and Badji Mokhtar. However, the two ferries, Tariq Ibn Ziyad and Tassili II, are currently in Greece for repairs and maintenance. The date of their return to service is not yet known.
Furthermore, to increase its passenger transport capacity, Algérie Ferries has resorted to chartering two vessels: the Moby Dada and the Ariadne, with the aim of transporting more passengers and offering more frequent crossings. However, the Ariadne was returned to the Attika group at the end of April after the conclusion of the charter contract. The national company has not indicated whether it plans to lease a new vessel for the summer or will rely solely on the operational ferries.
Additionally,Algérie Ferrieshas launched a new promotion called « Watani, » offering discounts of up to 60% on ticket prices for the summer season of 2024. This promotional offer is valid from August 10 to September 28, 2024, primarily targeting Algerians living abroad and their families, thus providing them with the opportunity to travel at lower costs and reconnect with their loved ones.
